UP THE DÉISE

From Walsh Park to Croke Park — the funniest journey you’ll ever take.”

A comedy with heart in two acts

Written in collaboration with Sean Upton by David Hennessy

Up The Déise is a comedy with heart about a group of young Waterford hurlers with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities chasing the dream of an All-Ireland Inclusive Five-a- Side title. It will be staged at the Theatre Royal Waterford from 21st to 24th October 2026.

Led by their fiery but hapless coach Brendan, their kind-hearted carer Mary, cheeky sister Katie, and eejit Kit Man/First Aid man Tommy, the lads juggle chaotic training sessions, chaotic fundraisers, and a road trip full of blaas, chips, and pigeons on the way to Croke Park.

Through laughter, pride, and a few wrong turns, the team discovers what it really means to play for Waterford. It’s not just about winning — it’s about belonging, being seen, and shouting Up the Déise! with the whole county behind them.
